Gomphaeschna furcillata
(Harlequin Darner)
Gomphaeschna furcillata is very similar in appearance to G. antilope but is more common, has a slightly earlier flight season, and ranges a bit farther into the northern parts of Alabama and Mississippi. Like the previous species, the Harlequin Darner is most often seen foraging in forest openings near the swampy areas where it breeds, and the two species are sometimes found together during the time when their flight seasons overlap.
