Didymops floridensis
(Florida Cruiser)
Didymops floridensis was thought to be endemic to Florida until populations were discovered at a couple of localities within the Conecuh National Forest in south Alabama. The usual habitat for this species is naturally occurring, sand-bottomed lakes with maidencane growing around the margins. This habitat is almost totally absent from Alabama and Mississippi, so it’s unlikely that additional populations of this dragonfly will be found elsewhere in either state.
