AMERICAN SNOUT
Libytheana carinenta
A common and widespread butterfly throughout both Alabama and Mississippi. Can be found flying year round in our region. Possess unusually large and extended labial palps (mouth parts) hence the common name of "snout". The ventral surface of the wings can be mottled brown and gray or plain with very little markings. Dorsal surface brown with orange at the base of the wings and white spots on the forewing.
