FROSTED ELFIN
Callophrys irus
Known from only one historical record from Tuscaloosa County in Alabama, this species is very localized and is dependent upon the presence of lupine as a host plant for the larvae. Lupine is typically found in pine barrens in which the canopy remains open. A fairly large brown Elfin with frosted margins on both fore and hindwing. Black spot near tail diagnostic for this species. Similar species: Brown Elfin and Henry's Elfin
