Cylindera unipunctata
(One-spotted Tiger Beetle)
Cylindera unipunctata is a woodland tiger beetle, most often found around or under leaf litter around openings in forested areas. The range of this species includes all of Alabama except for the extreme south, as well as the eastern portion of Mississippi. Adults may be encountered between April to September, peaking in June. It is reluctant to fly, preferring to remain hidden in the leaf litter, where it is very well-camouflaged.
