Cicindela (Cicindela) repanda
(Bronzed Tiger Beetle)
Cicindela repanda is one of the most common and widely distributed tiger beetles in the United States; it has been documented from every county in Alabama and surely occurs in all Mississippi counties, as well. This species is almost always associated with water and can be found along streams and rivers of all sizes as well as lakes and wet roadside areas; can occasionally be found in dry sand or other bare ground high above the water. This is a very gregarious species that can often be seen in large swarms along the water’s edge. In our area, adults can be seen nearly year-round, although they are scarce in mid-summer and absent during the coldest part of the winter.
