Ischnura hastata
(Citrine Forktail)
Ischnura hastata is a very successful species, despite its small size; it can be found statewide in Alabama and Mississippi at a variety of temporary or permanent, grassy or otherwise vegetated ponds, lakes, ditches, and swamps. This damselfly is one of several species known to exhibit cannibalism, almost always with females capturing and devouring males. (Note the red parasitic mite on the first photo - adult odonates, particularly those that breed in lentic waters, are often infested with these mites.)
