Epitheca sepia
(Sepia Baskettail)
Epitheca sepia is one of several brown, medium-sized, mostly clear-winged members of the genus to occur in Alabama and Mississippi. This species has virtually no dark markings in the wings, and has more yellow on the abdomen than our other species, making it appear paler in the field. Flight season extends well into late summer, much later than related species. Habitat is ponds, lakes, and slow streams with sand or mud substrates. Occurs in a few localities in south Alabama; has not been found to date in Mississippi.
