Aphylla angustifolia is common in Texas and Louisiana and ranges well south into Central America, but it has only been collected once in the extreme southwestern corner of Mississippi. The species does not occur in Alabama. Breeding habitat has been described as lakes, ponds, and occasionally slowly flowing areas along rivers or streams.
