BANDED HAIRSTREAK
Satyrium calanus
Common and expected to occur throughout both Alabama and Mississippi. Flies in the Spring in our region. Males tend to perch in sunny openings awaiting females and often are territorial. Underside dark gray with postmedian band edged with white on outer edge; blue hindwing spot is seldom capped with red and does not reach postmedian band. Similar species: King's Hairstreak and Striped Hairstreak
