Petaluridae (Petaltails)
A single species of this primitive family of dragonflies occurs in Alabama and Mississippi. The large, brown nymphs are unusual because they don’t live underwater; rather, they live in wet mud, usually associated with leaves, at the edges of shallow, mucky forested seeps.
