Lestidae (Spreadwings)

Two genera and ten species of lestid damselflies are known to occur in Alabama and Mississippi. Nymphs can be found in heavily vegetated, lentic waters such as swamps, beaver ponds, and other temporary or permanent natural ponds, where they are usually associated with submerged vegetation. Spreadwing nymphs have long legs, an elongate abdomen, and relatively large, leaflike terminal gills.
